SI Revue 2006 - My Looking-Glass Self
|Feb. 12th, 2006 01:29 pm SI Revue 2006|
For those of you who haven't heard me stressing about this for a month, I'll start with some brief background info. My school offers an alternative spring break program to students that gives us a chance to work in well-respected "information" institutions for a week (I'm hoping to end up at the Smithsonian or the Library of Congress). Anyway, in order to do this, some serious fundraising is required. One aspect of fundraising was an SI talent show that family, friends, profs, and even the dean came to. I got roped into doing an Indian folk dance with some other girls, which was terrifying considering I've never been on a stage for anything other than playing an instrument. My group ended up having to go last, and I didn't think I was going to survive the stage fright. But I did it! I got through it and didn't make an ass of myself lol. I'm in such a good mood that I thought I'd share some of the pictures from last night. Nisha's little sister actually has some of my group dancing, so I'll put those up as soon as I get them.
Here I am with some of the performers in my group and other SI friends at Madras Masala for a dinner after our dress rehearsal:
And here are some after we all survived dancing!
I'll post more photos later, but I had to put something up while I was still in an excited, happy mood :o)

Thanks - dressing up was actually my favorite part :o)
Are you going to post pictures of your polar bear jump? I can't believe you're doing that - it sounds too intense for me!!!

ANNE!! OMG you look so different!!! You never emailed me back, how are you???
Hey - I'm so glad you commented; I'd been meaning to send you pictures of the "new" me lol!!
I'm so so sorry about not writing you back; I haven't had time for much of anything lately, between work, my internship, and dance practices (I miss the Internet). It's no excuse, and I hope too many people aren't mad at me :(
I promise you'll get a long email from me very soon (spring break is only two weeks away and I'm going to relax for part of it!!!). But yeah, these pictures basically show what I've been up to. It took some "encouragement" shall we say lol, but getting involved with something really helped me meet people. You know what's crazy though, Nisha and I are the youngest people in any of the pictures. Everyone else is in their late 20s (the woman in the orange skirt kneeling in the front row of the group shot is 37!!!). It's different having older friends, but they all act like me so it's okay :)
Well this is beginning to get too long to qualify as a comment, so I'll let you go for for now. If you want to see anymore pictures from last night or the past couple of months look here: http://photobucket.com/albums/y96/historia18/

Wow, I didn't know you had all those great graduation pictures of us! I need to steal some of those... :) I'm also so amazed you were able to dance on stage - I could NEVER do that! Both you and Nisha looks awesome, although Nisha looks like a little person in that one photo :o)
It is actually pretty sad how many pictures I still have on my camera that I haven't put on my computer yet. It is such a long process (and is how I've been procrastinating not doing homework today)! I still have more to upload!
Lol, I think I've been trying to hide the graduation pics because I look so awful in them. But as they're all I have I decided to put them online so I could order some prints :) It was a nice day and I really like the picture of you and Clement. I need to start being better about taking my camera with me everywhere.
And yeah, Nisha has been getting a hard time about that last picture haha - finally I got to be around people my height so she looks exceptionally short instead of me looking too damn tall!

I thought you were the white girl at first!
I'm confused by your statement - I am white! Do you really not know which girl in the pictures I am? I'm wearing a green sweater in the first picture and the purple/gold outfit in the other shots. I wouldn't mind being Indian (lord knows it is quite the effort for me to try to maintain any kind of tan and I'd kill for thicker hair), but I'm 100% European.

No, the REALLY white girl in the first picture on the left who is ALSO in a green sweater.
Lol, well I guess you've only seen one picture of me so that's fair :) At least you eventually figured out who I was.
