|Jul. 28th, 2006 01:47 pm I've missed you guys!|
I feel bad for not having posted in ages, so I thought I'd update about myself if anyone cares :o)
I'm sad to report that all I've basically been doing this summer is working. Yep, no trips even to somewhere close by like Cedar Pointe (although I hope to get there before the summer's finished). It's not to say that I haven't been enjoying my jobs though.
Being a children's librarian is something I'm enjoying a lot more than I expected to. All the kids I see are a lot of fun and definitely have a better time in the library than the college students I'm used to working with. I know it helps that they're coming to the library for crafts instead of homework, but their enthusiasm makes me forget sometimes. Anyway, my boss carries her camera around with her quite a bit, so I've recently ended up with a lot of pictures from programming I've worked on since June. If you're interested you can check out some of the ones I liked that she sent me.
Here I am before the big summer reading registration kick-off. All the librarians (I do like being called a librarian even if I am only technically an "intern" at this point) got these really dorky shirts that say "Read to Succeed" but I loved it. The Canton Public Library has so much money to spend on programming that they also even brought in amusement for the kids. Paws from the Detroit Tigers was there, along with Ronald MacDonald, and then just a regular clown!
And this past week I got to come up with my own story-time/craft program for some 1st-3rd graders. While it made me ridiculously nervous to have my boss taking pictures during my program, it's been amusing for me to see what I look like interacting with the kids!
So here's me reading one of my favorite childhood books: Animalia. If you've never seen this book, you have to check it out. The illustrations are amazing and it's still tons of fun trying to find all the hidden images the author/illustrator sticks in throughout his book. Thankfully, I had really responsive kids who had a blast trying to help me find all the pictures!
I tried to give my program a theme, so after the story we made our own animals out of toilet paper rolls. It was more challenging for the kids than I intended, but I discovered that they really do seem to just enjoy the process of making something rather than their finished product (note the little boy who decided to make funny glasses instead of the dog he was working on lol)!
I hope you enjoyed this peak into my summer. I'm sorry for not writing more - I'm going to try and change that since I miss keeping in better touch with all my LJ friends! I want to see pictures from you guys too if you get a chance :)
Hope you're enjoying your summers!

Hey, pictures of people working in labs have to be a lot more exciting than what I've posted. I love my job, but I'm guessing yours is much more kickass lol. I bet you get a cool lab coat to wear that makes you look all professional and distinguished as you carry out your various experiments :)
